القاهرة 18 يونيو 2018: أعلن مهرجان الجونة
السينمائي عن مشاركة فيلم «يوم الدين» للمخرج المصري أبو بكر شوقي في
مسابقة دورته الثانية، التي ستعقد في منتجع الجونة للفترة من 20 حتى 28
سبتمبر/ أيلول 2018.
شوقي الذي أنجز قبل عشر سنوات وثائقياً بعنوان
«المستعمرة»، تناول فيه واقع مستعمرة مرضى الجذام في منطقة أبو زعبل شمالي
القاهرة، إنكب بعده على تطوير سيناريو فيلمه الروائي الطويل الأول «يوم
الدين»، حيث يكمل رحلة الشخصية الرئيسية «بشاي»، الرجل القبطي، جامع
القمامة، الذي شفى من الجذام، لكن آثاره ما زالت باقية على جسده ووجهه. لم
يخرج "بشاي" من المستعمرة التي عاش فيها منذ طفولته، لكنه وبعد وفاة زوجته
قرر البحث عن جذوره، حاملاً مقتنياته الهزيلة على عربة، يرافقه في رحلة
بحثه الطفل النوبي اليتيم «أوباما». يغادر "بشاي" مستعمرة الجذام متجهاً
الى محافظة قنا، مواجهاً العالم بكل أفراحه وأحزانه بحثاً عن عطف ومكان
وأسرة رغم اهمال عائلته له وهو صغير.
الفيلم أختير ضمن المسابقة الرسمية للدورة 71
لمهرجان كانّ السينمائي. مؤسس المهرجان نجيب ساويرس شهد العرض العالمي
الأول للفيلم في المهرجان وخرج بانطباع ايجابي عنه «يوم الدين.. تجربة
فريدة في مسار السينما المصرية، ليس فقط لتمكنه من الوصول الى المشاهد ولا
لموضوعه وحالة بطله، ولكن لأنه يحمل الكثير من القيّم الإنسانية التي تاهت
ملامحها في ظل صخب الحياة، كما أن مخرجه أبوبكر شوقي هو أحد الوجوه
السينمائية العربية الواعدة والتي ينتظرها الكثيرون».
وأضاف ساويرس؛ «يوم الدين» ليس فيلماً عن مرضى
الجذام فحسب، بل هو فيلم يحفل بالعديد من المعاني؛ عن فئات تحاول النجاة
وممارسة حقها الطبيعي في البقاء، في ظل حياة شديدة الصعوبة والقسوة."
ومن جانبه تحدث مدير المهرجان انتشال التميمي عن
فيلم شوقي؛ "ليس من قبيل الصدفة أن يتم اختيار"يوم الدين" للتنافس مع بقية
أفلام المسابقة الرسمية لمهرجان كانّ السينمائي، بل أختيراستناداً الى نصه
القوي، وتصويره الجميل والى الأداء الرائع لممثليه. دون شك إنها بداية
رائعة لشوقي. لقد تابعنا تطور إنجاز الفيلم في مختلف ورش العمل التي شارك
فيها انتهاءً بمنصة الجونة السينمائية. نحن مبتهجون لضم برنامجنا فيلماً
مميزاً وطليعياً، ينتظره الجمهور المصري والعربي بترقب كبير خاصة بعد
النجاح الطاغِ في عروضه الكانُية".
حظى "يوم الدين" بترحيب جماهيري ونقدي كبير عند
عرضه الأول في مهرجان كان السينمائي، فكتبت عنه شيلاج روان ليج في مجلة
"سكرين أناركي"؛ "يربط شوقي الجمهور بشخصيات فيلمه، منذ اللحظة الأولى.
تلك الشخصيات التي تحب بعضها البعض، وتحب عائلاتها ومجتمعها. فرحلتهم هي
رحلتنا من فرط التشابه بيننا وبينهم، هؤلاء الذين لا يتم التعامل معهم
بمستوى الطيبة التي يستحقونها".
من جانبه صرح المخرج أبو بكر شوقي؛ "سُعدت
باختيار «يوم الدين» للمشاركة في مسابقة الأفلام الروائية الطويلة لمهرجان
الجونة السينمائي، خصوصاً وأنني أعتبر المهرجان شاهداً على هذه التجربة،
وأحد الداعمين لها من خلال مشاركته في منصة الجونة السينمائية، وعرضه للمرة
الأولى في وطني مصر والعالم العربي" كما أتمنى أن يحقق الفيلم ردود أفعال
طيبة، وأن يحظى بذات الحفاوة التي استقبل بها في كانّ".

يتمثل مسعى مهرجان الجونة السينمائي الرئيسي في عرض
مجموعة متنوعة من الأفلام السينمائية للجمهور المحب للسينما وأن يكون وسيلة

El Gouna Film Festival announces the participation of Yomeddine
in its Feature Narrative Competition
Cairo, June 18, 2018: El Gouna Film Festival announced the selection
of YOMEDDINE in the Feature Narrative Competition of its 2nd edition
that will take place from September 20 to 28, 2018, in El Gouna, the
Red Sea, Egypt.
Yomeddine directed by Abu Bakr Shawky was inspired by his short
documentary titled El Mosta'mara “The Colony” (2009). The documentary
sheds light on the patients living in Egypt's only surviving leper
colony located in Abu Zaabal neighborhood, northern of Cairo. Since
then, Shawky’s interest in the leper colony and its people deepened and
he began working on the screenplay for Yomeddine, his first feature
narrative film, pursuing the journey of his documentary’s protagonist,
Beshay, a Coptic man and a garbage collector, who despite recovering
from leprosy, carries the disease’s traces on his face and body. The
protagonist has never ventured out of the leper colony where he has
lived since childhood, and only after his wife's death he decided to go
in search of his roots. With his meager possessions strapped to a donkey
cart and joined by Obama, a Nubian orphan who he takes under his wings,
Beshay leaves the colony and heads towards Qena, one of Egypt’s southern
governorates. In his journey, he confronts the world for the first time,
discovers its joys and sorrows, as he continues his quest for a family,
despite the fact that they neglected him as a child.
Present at the world premiere of the film at the recently concluded
Cannes Film Festival, Naguib Sawiris, Founder, El Gouna Film Festival
(GFF) remarked, “Yomeddine is a unique experience in the Egyptian
cinema, not for its achievement of being selected for the official
competition of Cannes Film Festival or for the moving story of its
protagonist affected by leprosy, but because it reminds us of human
values that we seem to have forgotten in the hustle and bustle of life.
I believe that Abu Bakr Shawky, director of the film, is one of the most
promising Arab filmmakers whose future work we can look forward
to." Naguib Sawiris also pointed out that “the story
of Yomeddine is about the outcasts of society who are trying to survive
and enjoy their right to live despite the difficulties and cruelties of
life”.
"It is no coincidence that Yomeddine was selected for Official
Competition at Cannes Film Festival. The film has a very strong script,
has been beautifully shot and very well performed. It is without doubt
an extraordinary debut. We have followed its evolution from the various
labs that it participated in, including our own CineGouna Platform and
are delighted to have such a brilliant and avant-garde film in our
program. Our Festival audience, Arabs and Egyptians eagerly await the
screening of this film at GFF, especially after its impressive opening
in Cannes,” said Intishal Al Timimi, Festival Director, El Gouna Film

At its world premiere in Cannes, Yomeddine was received warmly by both,
the audience and the critics. Yomeddine’s success at Cannes Film
Festival was expressed by a number of international critics.
Shelagh Rowan-Legg wrote in Screen Anarchy that “Yomeddine gives us a
true story, the one that we need to be reminded of every now and then;
Shawky immediately attaches the audience to the main characters, through
their love of each other and the family of their community; their
journey is ours, both as them, and as the people who might not treat
them with the kindness they deserve.”
“It gives me great pleasure to know that my film Yomeddine has been
selected for the Feature Narrative Competition of El Gouna Film
Festival, especially because the festival has been one of its supporters
through the film’s participation in CineGouna Platform. The screening at
El Gouna Film Festival will be the film’s MENA premiere and its first
screening in Egypt, my homeland. I hope that the film will be as warmly
